All levels of BORDA 4x4, ATV & UTV training are suitable for trainees with minimal or no off-road driving/riding experience. All BORDA training is progressive, introducing new skills and concepts at a pace appropriate to individual trainees.
Trainees attending 4x4 & UTV courses are expected to have sound road driving competence and a good understanding of road vehicle controls.

British Off-Road Driving Association (BORDA) training courses are valid for 3 years, after which refresher training is recommended.
WHAT vehicles are suitable?
Training can be undertaken in most SUVs, commercial 4x4s, ATVs and UTVs, along with specialist wheeled or tracked off-road machinery such as Argocat, Unimog, Softrak, etc. Vehicles must have a minimum of:
Four Wheel Drive (Full time, selectable or on demand)
190mm ground clearance
All Terrain (AT) tyres (tyres rated for road use only are not recommended as they can be susceptible to damage off road)
We recommend trainees undertake courses with the specific off-road vehicle they will be using most often in their day-to-day work. This will ensure familiarity with controls, limitations and vulnerabilities specific to that vehicle type and model. If for whatever reason this isn’t possible, Peak Training Scotland can provide a range of off road vehicles including Toyota Hilux, Classic & Modern Land Rover Defender and Can Am ATV & UTVs.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
We recommend that you come dressed for the outdoors, with a waterproof layer and sturdy footwear you don’t mind getting a little muddy. Weather can be changeable and we will be spending time outside of the vehicle and classroom, so weather-appropriate clothing is essential.
Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided, but trainees should bring a packed lunch. Alternatively, we can recommend several local cafes if trainees would prefer to buy lunch on the day.
