If your staff operate 4x4 vehicles off-road, employers have a duty under the Health & Safety at Work Act and PUWER regulations to provide certificated training. Our 4x4 driver training in Scotland builds the skills and experience needed to drive safely on varied off road terrain.

What the course covers

• Safety and legal requirements - land access, insurance, vehicle & driver licensing

• Vehicle technical knowledge – drive systems, controls, differentials, low range & tyres

• Vehicle limitations – approach, departure, and break-over angles, axle clearance, ruts & vulnerabilities

• Safe driving techniques – off road driving procedures, route choice, terrain assessment, engine braking, self recovery & water crossings

• Loads and implements – effect on stability and safe management

• Environmental awareness – minimising ground damage and respecting habitats

• Emergency procedures – communication, first aid, fire precautions
